Following the example of one girl I met recently, and Brother Mhenlo before that...

I'll be offering lessons in first aid if anybody wants them. I think especially after everyone went through those hallucinations, people might feel just a bit safer knowing some basic skills--and they'd probably be a little better equipped to handle trouble, too.

[Private]
It's sort of strange. I feel at my best now, compared to when I would just hang around the Clinic all day and read up on every relevant text I could find, and treat the odd visitor here and there. That girl--Kelly--really gave me a wake-up call, too.

I still wish I had some of the guys back up at Caduceus here, especially Angie, but now's not the time to dwell on that. In times of danger, I can't depend on those who aren't here. I have to rely on my own skills, and that's what I intend to do now.

I guess a doctor's happiest when he's helping people, even though having people to help in itself means the patient is sick or injured. Weird, isn't it?

Why is everyone singing...? It's hard to read with all the commotion.

The music's not bad, though. I'm not that great of a singer myself, but from the sounds of it--er, no pun intended--this is getting pretty contagious.

...I just started humming. Haha.

Maybe I'll take a break for a little while. It couldn't hurt, as long as I don't start getting neglectful.

That was a nice dream. Something I wish I could help with still...but I'm here now, not at Caduceus. I guess the fight at home will have to wait, at least until I can return to my world.

Was I really thinking...?

Nah.

But all these hallucinations and nightmares, right after the dreams--it must be horrible. I'm worried about everybody who's being affected by them. Nothing's happened to me yet, but I can imagine what some of the things I'd see would be like and if that's anything like what the affected are experiencing I wouldn't wish such things on anybody!

Don't worry, you'll be all right. Just make sure you get lots of rest.

(I can't believe we've gotten this far...we really have reached the pinnacle of medicine.)

That's the last patient for today. Angie, do we have anything else to finish up?

(OOC: Derek's dream world: one where no disease goes uncured and everybody turns out okay, plus a future with Angie by his side.)

Man, I wish I could go take a break sometimes. Haven't had a day off in a while--not even at Caduceus, even if Tyler keeps on telling me to take a week off with Angie...

Of course, there's work to be done. Three hundred or so people here, coming and going. I should be thankful there aren't too many people who need help compared to when I first got here (when was the last time someone came in with something common like a cold, anyway?), but I can't let myself get negligent either. I still remember what happened last time. Gee, that was a mess.

Right now everyone's in an uproar over this epidemic of truth-telling. With the variety we have here I can see why...at least it should be temporary like everything else, though it could be pretty interesting to see what happened if it was permanent.

August second? That's...quite a gap.

Looking back there's been other posts I haven't seen from previous days, so it can't have been some kind of error with the date. Have I really missed three weeks?

Well, it looks like I'll have to try and go through all that...

For starters, are there any new doctors who have arrived in the past three weeks or so? Anybody who's in the Clinic and/or in need of treatment? Does anybody I haven't spoken to have some kind of condition, or other health problems the doctors should know of?

This is going to take a while.

Ah, so that's how...why didn't I find this sooner?

Oh. I hardly noticed the date. I never saw many people celebrating. It's a little strange how people seem to celebrate occasions like Mother's Day more than the Fourth of July, even though anybody who isn't an American wouldn't have much reason to.

Oh, well. Happy Fourth of July to anybody celebrating it!

(OOC notes: Now that the new Trauma Center game is out, I'm going to be assuming here and there that Derek knows or learns any new procedures or techniques included in it, such as poison/burn treatment. There also may be some change in his personality in a few situations, as the new game provides a good review for Derek's character and I realize I've been playing him as a little too responsible/mature for a guy who still regularly gets told off by his nurse.)

For those who were taking lessons from Brother Mhenlo: if you'd like I could continue his lessons in his absence until this recent outbreak of transformation is over. I'm not well-versed in magical healing, but I should be able to teach first aid and other such medical treatments.

And speaking of which: to Miss Cassis, would it be possible to try teaching my own classes at the school you're starting up? I don't have any experience as a teacher, but if I can I'd like to help out.

And yet more people arrive. How many do we have now? The larger this place gets, the more concerning it is.

The records from that last entry aren't anywhere near complete. If only we could organize a more efficient method of checking up on hundreds of inhabitants--medical conditions, species anatomy and differences, anything else doctors might need to know--but we don't have any system to enforce that right now.

Miss Chiba? Mr. Phanan? Any of the other doctors or other organizers around here? Any ideas on how we could achieve this, if possible?

Times like this make me wish we had one of the people from over in R&D here. Somebody who knew how to make medicine better than I do--cures. At the least, I have to be thankful you can do any research here.

The library doesn't seem to have anything from back when they started curing the major sexually transmitted diseases, though. At best, it looks like it could be from around when I was a kid.
[/Private]

I'm also available for contact, for anyone who might have questions relating to the past week or other inquiries you might want to make of a doctor.

...Would it be possible to get a count of the doctors left? I know there's a couple that have disappeared and it would be good to get a public listing of who's still available.

After the other day, this has been long overdue.

Who is and isn't human here, and if you're not what are you? What are the differences between other species and humans, and are there any special treatment methods that might be different from any human treatments you know of?

This goes for anybody human too. Are there any conditions--anything, even something as simple as diabetes--the doctors have to keep in mind?

That is, the doctors still here. First Miss Kasugano, now two more. How many do we have left now?

(OOC: Strikes illegible. Derek doesn't want to worry random people.)

The Clinic's still busy. I've been looking through any medical texts I can find in the library in my spare time. I've come close to forgoing some sleep because of all this, and I've already skipped a couple of meals as it is because I've been double-checking things or reading up...

We've already got one doctor being treated as a patient now. Why did one of them have to disappear a while ago, when we're short enough as it is? At the very least, I hope she's all right now.

So everyone's talking about Mother's Day now, huh? Makes me wonder how Mom's doing. I haven't seen her in person since about a month after returning from the Caduceus Europe conference, and then only for a couple hours. That's been the only face-to-face meeting in over a year, too. It's all been phone calls and e-mails since I started working at Hope Hospital.

If I've disappeared she's probably as worried about my safety as Caduceus is right now. Maybe when we're allowed to go back I'll give her a visit. She's starting to get old--I shouldn't be worrying her like this.

As a general note to everyone, if you notice something's wrong then you might want to get checked by a doctor. It would be better to get a checkup sooner rather than regretting it later.

Log 2

Does anybody else here need medical treatment of any kind? I've already tended to one person, and I've heard other requests for aid in the past week since I got here.

Here's hoping that request for new supplies one of the other doctors here put in earlier comes through soon. It looks like we're short of both doctors and supplies, not to mention technology. This many people with only a few doctors and what I'm guessing is a limited number of those who know some sort of healing magic...that's a serious concern, especially if we're expecting conflict in the future.

Log 1

This place looks pretty run-down. It's not in ruins, but I doubt there's going to be all the equipment a typical hospital has. I have most of what I need here with me now, but the supplies are only going to last for so long.

I don't know what to think, being expected to just work for these people. It looks like they're in pretty bad shape right now, but I didn't become a doctor so I could watch people die. Not a good position for someone who's been drafted into a war situation. Not to mention the fact that they're probably raising up an alarm back at Caduceus. The outbreak of that virus is winding down, but it's not over yet, and this constitutes as kidnapping, doesn't it?
